War And Peace:
History Of Russian Politics Tour.

Availabilty: Currently this tour is available by private booking only - see bottom of page.
Duration: 4 hours.

This tour is Russian history in a nutshell – from the ancient times to Ivan the Terrible, the Napoleonic War of 1812, the Crimean War, the Red October revolution, both World Wars and the Cold War, all the way up to Perestroika of the 80s and the early 90s.

Our guide will take you first to the Kshesinskaya Mansion. Once a love nest of the famous ballerina, this charming Style Moderne house was occupied by the Bolsheviks in 1917 and turned into their headquarters. Now it houses the Museum of Political History where you will see unique items related to the history of the Soviet Union: models of communal apartments and of the 1930s workers' barracks, NKVD investigator uniforms, Lenin's private study and much more.

The second stop is at the Artillery Museum, 5 min walk away, located in an old arsenal building, with a courtyard packed with Soviet armoured vehicles and rockets launchers. Touch the steel of Cold War era behemoths, look inside barrels of trophy German guns and see the remains of a U-2 spy plane next to the model of a rocket that downed it, all accompanied by a narrative of fateful battles and proxy wars Russia has fought throughout the centuries of its glorious history.

The subject of Russian political history is vast, and this tour can be done in more different ways than just what's suggested above. Let us know if you have a special interest in the subject and we'll tailor a personalised Russian Political History Tour for you.

The tour is guided by Alexander, our chief expert on Russian political history.

To book this tour privately, please write us at info@peterswalk.com, or ask your guide. The cost is 3600 rubles, covering up to eight people (450 rubles for each extra person). Museum admission fees are paid separately.
